Campaign to Relocate Dromana Waste Hopper

Federal Member for Flinders, Greg Hunt, and State Member for Nepean, Martin Dixon, have called for the urgent relocation of the Dromana waste hopper.
Mr Hunt and Mr Dixon have joined local resident John Parrent in a bid to get the hopper relocated from a residential area to the Dromana industrial estate.
"While the waste hopper provides an important community service for Dromana, its current location close to homes and a children's playground is far from ideal," Mr Hunt said.
"The hopper's location on Boundary Road close to a residential area is a historical anomaly," he said. "Elsewhere, at Mornington for example, waste hoppers are located in industrial areas, away from homes."
Mr Dixon said the existing hopper posed a health hazard and had a detrimental impact on nearby property values.
"Local residents are being exposed to increased environmental health risks by being situated too close to the waste hopper," Mr Dixon said.
"It also has an impact on property values: no-one wants to live next to a rubbish dump," he said.
Mr Hunt and Mr Dixon have joined Mr Parrent in calling for the Mornington Peninsula Shire to relocate the hopper to the nearby Dromana industrial estate.
"This facility is essential to Dromana, it's just in the wrong place," Mr Parrent said.
"An ideal location for the hopper already exists in the Dromana industrial estate on Collins Road," he said.
"It would be a relatively simple task to move the waste hopper a short distance to the industrial estate."
